Just Waiting

The breathing not quite so easy
The joints are starting to creak
And what used to take a day
Now seems to take a week
I try hard to avoid
Bending down anymore
It takes so much effort
Getting  up off the floor

Long insomnia filled nights
Seems to be the current way
Yet staying awake a problem
During the course of the day.
I think often of my friends
Once a teeming band
That can now be counted
On the fingers of one hand.

This life has been a good life
Far more joy than pain or despair
And in times of trouble and need
Family and friends always  there.
The sun still rises every morning
And still sets every single night
And as these things progress
My Life is pretty much alright

Sometimes I can't help thinking,
Though in truth it pains me so,
We're  parked in a waiting room
Until it comes our turn to go,
Then I look at my garden,
Enjoy the warm sunshine,
Think I'm not in any rush to
Move on any further up the line.

So the breathing not so easy
Limbs not quite so free
And maybe I'm not so supple
As once I used to be
But I've got a little gripper
To pick things up,off the floor
So really I don't need to
Bend down so much anymore.
